In some Central Asian regions, one out of every 4 children will die before they reach 5 years of age due largely to water-borne diseases.

JDA has provided access to clean water by drilling and digging water wells and installing hand pumps on more than 600 wells. Where communities do not have access to shallow water, they are learning new appropriate techniques in purifying their water through solar water disinfection. Community health education programs are being conducted covering such topics as hygiene, nutrition, water treatment, first aid, family planning, alcoholism and drug addition.

Transformational Development

The worldview held by the people of Central Asia has been shaped for centuries by culture, climate, education, geography, natural resources, government policies and other factors. It is a worldview that embraces the importance of the family, of giving through hospitality and seeking God. But there are elements of their worldview that keep them trapped in poverty, disease and hopelessness. Worldview determines not only values, but literally what is seen and what is not, what is heard and what is not. Ones perceptions are radically influenced by ones worldview. Different cultures literally cannot see the same things.

JDA believes each person has unique creative abilities to make a difference in their lives, in their families, in their communities and their nation. The creative capacity of each person is at the heart of the transformational development process. JDA helps catalyze transformational development by investing in individuals to help them realize their unique creative potential in solving their own problems, transforming their own lives as well as their families and communities. Societies that are most successful in helping its people realize their creative potential is the society that will be most successful.

The dynamic creativity of people is also the source of improvement in human well-being and wealth creation. The nations that provide the most individual freedom for creativity will ultimately generate the most human well-being, prosperity and the most real wealth. The economic future of any nation is not and never has been tied to the physical assets we see. History has proven that the economic future of nations is tied to the vast potential of creative thinking and to the extent that individuals have liberty to do so. Progress is dependent on many factors but the driving force for progress is the human capacity to create. The only impediment to this is a fearful or limited concept of the real source of our wealth, a lack of faith, fatalistic attitudes or a worldview that that looks to the past and not to the future. Progress happens, development happens, as free individuals and institutions create new ideas to unfold new processes and discover new resources to develop.

Societies will be transformed when they have liberty or freedom to imagine, theorize, conceptualize, experiment, invent, articulate, organize, manage, solve problems with their minds and hands that contribute to the progress of the individual, their families, communities and nation.
