Support JDA's Poverty Alleviation Projects

One of the ways that JDA is responding to poverty alleviation is through micro credit. We use a modified village bank model suited for Central Asian people. Levels of poverty are partly determined by the lack of animals a family owns. More and more JDA is being a catlalyst to restore small animals to poor families. Animals are a great way for a poor family to invest in their future and a relatively safe way to earn interest on their investment when the animals reproduce. Various loan products have been developed and repayment is made in as little time as 15 days or as long as two years. When the credit is repaid it is recycled again to help another family.

The below are suggested donations for a full credit cycle. Smaller amounts can be donated and these portions will be accumulated until the full credit sum is received.

  Goats - $190

Goats are hardy animals and easy to take care of and they eat just about anything, so a family does not have to use scarce time or money tending the goats. For a poor family goats can be the start toward economic well-being. Through JDA's micro credit program we help a family invest in their future. Families have up to two years to return their credit.

For a gift of $190, you can help a poor family purchase 10 Goats.

  Cows - $270

Cows are an important part of daily life for people in the villages that JDA serves. Two young cows purchased and fed with high quality feed, can grow large enough to sell for more than twice the cost in less than 3 months.

For a gift of $270 you can help a family purchase two young cows and the special feed needed for quick growth, that will give them a head start in economic freedom.

  Chicks - $140

For a young family that is headed by a woman, raising chickens gives her the opportunity to stay at home to care for her children. JDA provides equipment, training, high quality feed, and seventy - day old broiler chicks for their first cycle of growing chickens. When the chicks reach about 2 kgs. in 50 days they are sold at the local markets.

For a gift of $140 you can support a poor family with a new poultry business.

  Mushroom Growing - $70

Mushroom growing is another way a family can start a small business. JDA offers training and supplies for 200 plastic bags filled with special substrate and mushroom spores. In 45 - 50 days the family should be able to harvest 200 kgs. of great tasting mushrooms to sell at the local bazaar.

For a gift of $70 you can help a family start a new mushroom growing business.

Credit for Poor Families - $50

JDA's micro credit program is helping hundreds of families. Based on a modified village banking model with as little as $50 a person can start a small business. When the credit is returned larger amounts will be given. In addition to the businesses shown above, JDA has helped families start businesses in sewing, carpet making, fish smoking, tombstone engraving, cabinet making, plaster manufacturing, street cafe, as well as simple commerce. More than 95% of the credit has been returned on time and used again for additional credit cycles.

For a gift of $50 you can help a family start their own business.
